One morning, Emily receives a vibrant love letter anonymously. Unresponsive, she throws the paper in the garbage under the astonishment of John, his employee, the secret author of this passionate statement. Sad to see her depressed mother since her husband left, she decided to send the said letter, hoping to save her from her grief. She can not imagine that his gesture will be the beginning of a continuous series of misunderstandings.
Pierre Salvadori has always set a goal dear to his master Lubitsch: reveal the truth of the characters through their lies. Do not see this movie as a plagiarism or even a tribute to filmmaker T o Be Or Not To Be . If mastered the mechanics of comedy, Salvadori, in writing at least its own style. Aided by its writer Benoit Graffin, has developed a clever architecture misunderstandings to meet together with an innate sense of rhythm. Based on a delicious trio, the story is heavily loaded with characters who each have a real thick. Audrey Tautou, wanting to do good, shall be guilty of cowardice, even cruel at times. Nathalie Baye, neglected wife, finds a new life in an illusory and deceptive love and will eventually reveal itself in one day unexpected vision. As for Sami Bouajila, the polite young man and cultivated it in early will give way to a manipulative character in turn.
True Lies has rare quality in the French comedy : charm. Fleeing all verismo, Salvadori dedicated to making probably the most incongruous situations, and it follows, amused, this delightful boulevard theater where the right words without being an ordinary signature, all have their place, where the decor a bit outdated allow characters to evolve.
If his production does not always live up to its plot, the director gives us some nice visual moments, like when Nathalie Baye learns the truth when he saw the couple in Bouajila-Tautou silhouette. And to look more closely, the film shows cheerfully transgressive no one escapes the evil or wickedness. This tasty entertainment makes us believe that there are authors who still have a high regard for the construction screenplay, working hard to ensure that all is harmonious and elegant.
